St. Anselm Salutes Veterans

On Sunday, November 8, 2015, St. Anselm Parish proudly continued its tradition of paying tribute to the veterans of all the branches of the United States Military, both living and deceased, and particularly those who sacrificed their lives for our country. This year the service was especially moving and meaningful as the ceremony paid particular tribute to Bay Ridge’s own Howard Dunn, who passed away this September. Howard was a long time member of Saint Anselm Parish, a patriot, a World War II navy vet, and incredibly active in all aspects of Veterans’ affairs.

Connie Ranocchia, who thanked Sen. Martin Golden and John Quaglione for their assistance in organizing the event, coordinated the Mass, which was being held for the fifth year.  The Catholic War Veterans, American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of The American Legion, Legion Riders, United Military Veteran's of Kings County, Marine Corps League, Korean War Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans, and Rolling Thunder were all present for the memorial. Fr. Stephen Saffron celebrated the Mass in thanksgiving for the service and sacrifice offered on behalf of our country by the countless men and women of our armed services.

After the playing of taps, the Battle Hymn of the Republic, as the recessional, brought the moving tribute to a stirring conclusion and set the tone of celebration and remembrance for the service offered by our veterans. We hope you will join us next year for another beautiful “salute” to our wonderful veterans!

All the Best,

The Saint Anselm Publicity Committee
