December 12 & 13, 2015 - St. Anselm's Winter Wonderland

The weather outside was anything but frightful on the weekend of December 12th and 13th as the New York metropolitan area enjoyed unseasonably warm temperatures. But, inside St. Anselm Catholic Academy it was a Winter Wonderland as Academy parents and volunteers provided Christmas joy for parishioners, “young and old”.

Rides, foods, and an assortment of fun activities for children filled McMahon Auditorium with holiday cheer, where the centerpiece was a floor to ceiling Christmas tree. For adults there was an opportunity to support the Academy with the purchase of 50/50 raffle tickets, as well as a selection of vendors offering items for sale, beautiful knitted scarves, hats, bags, and blankets handmade by the members of Saint Anselm’s own Young at Heart, personalized Christmas ornaments, holiday decorations, art work, and jewelry all tempted visitors looking for a gift. Parents found an opportunity for youngsters to explore the meaning of the Christmas holiday, or just express themselves artistically, with art projects in the kindergarten room.

Downstairs, in the cafeteria, visitors enjoyed coffee, hot chocolate, delicious foods, and treats offered by the members of Boy Scout Troop 13, who raised money for their activities and programs with the proceeds. The living Nativity in Meletia Hall reminded visitors of the true Christmas message. Children and parents then moved on to greet Santa in his workshop, and on his sleigh. As they left Meletia Hall, children (and parents) had the opportunity to purchase small toys.

To the parents of Saint Anselm Catholic Academy, the numerous volunteers, and the many generous parishioners - “Thanks” - for making this “fun” time and “meaningful” experience of Winter Wonderland possible. Proceeds from the weekend will assist in funding the wonderful educational programs offered by the Saint Anselm Catholic Academy. For more information, go to www.sacany.org
