November 6, 2016 - A Week of Service at St. Anselm Parish

Sunday, November 6th saw the start of a week of service at St. Anselm that exemplifies all that is best about our parish family.

On Sunday morning parents and scouts of Scout Troop 13 held a fundraiser during the New York City Marathon. Home baked cookies and cakes, granola and other items were sold in front of the Academy building for the benefit of the scout troop and it’s wonderful activities. At the same time scouts, with their parents, distributed water to runners in front of the parish parking lot, the 3-mile mark for the Marathon.

Also, at the Marathon, other St. Anselm parishioners stepped up to serve the runners by giving out water, cheering the runners on, and calling attention to worthwhile causes.

During the week students at Saint Anselm Catholic Academy demonstrated the spirit of service by collecting much needed clothing and health care items for victims of Hurricane Mathew, that swept through Haiti in October, causing damage to property and loss of life.

And, in a most meaningful gesture of service, Deacon Simon Galazyn, whom St. Anselm parishioner’s have come to know and love over the past year as “Seminarian Simon” came to visit us, his “home parish”. On Saturday, November 5th, Deacon Simon received ordination to the Diaconate.  (To read more visit: http://thetablet.org/bishop-dimarzio-ordains-eight-transitional-deacons-on-their-way-to-priesthood/). On Sunday, the 6th, at the noon Mass Deacon Simon came to Saint Anselm to proclaim the Gospel for the first time, and to mark a major step in his journey of discernment, prayer and study toward Ordination to the Priesthood.

We wish Deacon Simon well and thank all the Scout members, parishioners, teachers and students who demonstrated a spirit of service here at St. Anselm.

All the Best,

The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
