October 28, 2017 - St. Anselm Oktoberfest

The evening of Saturday, October 28th was Wunderbare at St. Anselm’s. The “first annual” St. Anselm Oktoberfest, sponsored by the St. Anselm Catholic Academy Home Academy Association and the Parish, was a great success and a joyous fun-filled evening for the nearly two hundred partygoers.

Guests enjoyed a delicious buffet of German specialties featuring Wiener schnitzel, sausage in sauerkraut, salmon in dill sauce, spaetzel, red cabbage, German potato salad and other specialties from the Schnitzel Haus Restaurant at 7319 – 5th Avenue. German wines and beers were enjoyed throughout the evening, which was rounded off with German coffee (a close relative of Irish coffee – but, don’t tell anyone), made with cherry brandy and whipped cream, and desserts of tasty pastries, cookies, and cakes.

The music of Bernie’s Orchestra provided a medley of German tunes, both popular and less well-known, as well a mix of traditional melodies for the pleasure of those who wanted to dance, or sing, or just hum along with the instrumentalists and dancers dressed in traditional Bavarian clothing.

Throughout the evening there was the continuous purchase of 50/50 tickets and raffles for gift baskets, which included donations from - Charmed by JLM, Towne, Towne Plus, The Hit Factory Gym, The Schnitzel Haus, and Harbor Fitness by buyers – the winners went home happy and the non-winners went home hopeful for the next year!

Danke schoen to Fr. Saffron and a wonderful committee - Michelle Soto, Eileen and Andrew White, Florence Diaz, Eileen and Peter Loughlin, Jeanine and Jim Condon, Robert Kassenbrock, Sarah and Simone Mouakkassad,Melissa and Seamus Lavin, Barbara Thomas, and Cono, as well as the parent’s committee of the St. Anselm’s Youth Activities 15th Annual Halloween Costume Dance Party whose decorating of the hall for the children’s event earlier in the day lent atmosphere to the evening’s festivities, and to Monsignor Maloney for his support.

All the best,

The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
