On the weekend of December 13th and 14th Saint Anselm parishioners again demonstrated their generosity this Christmas Season by bringing their gently used “professional” clothing to donate to the Workforce Ministry’s first clothing drive. The event benefited Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, an organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged young people and adults develop career and life skills.
Over the past five years the St. Anselm Workforce Ministry and Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow have presented a series of workshops for our parishioners and neighbors who are seeking to enter or re-enter the job market. Their presentations have touched upon resume writing, preparing a resume for the Internet age, use of the Internet for professional networking, job interview skills, as well as dressing for an interview and the work place.
The programs offered by Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow at its Brooklyn sites offer disadvantaged individuals the training to become productive members of the community. (Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow: 783 Fourth Avenue,Brooklyn, NY 11232/ Phone: 718-369-0303/ www.obtjobs.org)
The men’s and women’s suits, ties, dress shirts, skirts, dresses, blouses, and slacks, donated by St. Anselm parishioners will enable numerous youths and young adults to make a more “professional” appearance as they work toward entering the job market and set themselves on a career course to improving their lives.
All the best,
The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
