It was a rainy Feast of the Holy Family on Sunday, December 28th when the Holy Name Society of St. Anselm held a Blood Drive for the New York Blood Center. Dozens of donors were greeted as they entered St. Anselm Catholic Academy and thanked by Society members for their generosity in sharing the gift of life with other New Yorkers. Staff of the New York Blood Center took medical histories and checked blood pressure. Donors who were approved for participation then gave their blood donation. Many of the donors went the extra step of contributing “multiple products” – plasma, platelets, etc., a process which entails more time, but which makes Meletia Hall an ideal donation site. This year, for the first time, students joined the Blood Drive, providing volunteer service by assisting the donors at the “Canteen” area after they had completed the donation process. It was truly an example of St. Anselm parishioners and our Bay Ridge neighbors coming together for the family of New York on the Feast of the Holy Family.
