St. Anselm Blood Drive donors are a hardy and dedicated lot. In the past they have braved intense cold for December Blood Drives and pouring rain for both winter and spring Drives. On Sunday, July 19th, one of the hottest and muggiest days of 2015, they came to share the gift of life by donating at the first summer St. Anselm’s Blood Drive.
Members of the St. Anselm Holy Name Society greeted the dozens of donors as they entered the Academy’s cafeteria, where they filled in forms regarding their medical histories. They then moved into Meletia Hall where staff of the New York Blood Center checked the histories and took blood pressures. Many of the donors gave the extra time necessary to contribute “multiple products” – plasma, platelets, etc., a process for which Meletia Hall, with its ample space, is especially suited.
After their donations, the blood drive participants stocked up on carbs at the canteen table to bring their energy level back up. As the donors departed, members of the Holy Name Society again thanked them for coming and sharing the gift of life with their neighbors.
