July 2015 – St. Anselm Welcomes Seminarian Simon Galazyn

Welcome Seminarian Simon!

St. Anselm Parish is happy to welcome Seminarian Simon Galazyn for the summer. A native of Malbork, Poland, Seminarian Simon is studying for the priesthood here in the USA at the Seminary of Ss. Cyril and Methodius.

In Seminarian Simon’s own words:

My name is Szymon Andrzej Gałażyn (Simon Andrew) I was born in Sztum, Poland in the parish of St. Anne. My Parents live in Malbork, Poland. I have one brother and two sisters.

From my childhood I always attended Mass and services at my home church and always served as an altar boy and later as a lector in my home parish. I grew-up in a very traditional Catholic family. I often saw my parents praying together before eating and before going to sleep. We prayed evening prayer together as a family; my parents have a strong faith.

I have always had great devotion to the Blessed Mother. As I a child I attended parish Rosary devotion and would pray for my future. Even at a young age during those times of prayer I felt God speaking to my heart “Come and follow me.” This is why I chose to have a deeper relationship with God, whom I felt was calling me to the priesthood, even when I was a small boy.

Fr. Arcadius, my pastor in Malbork, was a very influential priest for the parish family and me.  He was an example for me of a good and holy priest; he was seen praying in the church often.  As an altar boy I always enjoyed serving his Masses.

I received my diploma in theology from the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski in Warsaw, Poland.  At the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Cracow, Poland I spent an introductory year for the seminary.  After a year in Cracow I decided to come to the United States and have been attending the Seminary of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Orchard Lake, Michigan. As part of the formation program and establishing a relationship with a diocese I have come to the Diocese of Brooklyn. As part of my summer break I am here at St. Anselm Parish to work on my English and to get to know Brooklyn.

We wish Seminarian Simon well in his studies and hope that his service here among us at St. Anselm is a time filled with grace.

All the best,

The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
