March 20, 2016 – SACA Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day

A grand time was had by all at the annual St. Anselm Catholic Academy (SACA) St. Patrick’s Day Party, which was held on March 20th, following the Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade, with SACA’s own former Chair of the Board, Jim McHugh as Grand Marshall.    There was laughter and lively conversation in Meletia Hall as the “Irish” came out to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day the St. Anselm way.  As guests caught up with each other they enjoyed the fabulous sounds of “The Band of Rogues” who played beloved Irish standards such as “No, Nay, Never” & “The Wild Rover” along with classics such as “Sweet Caroline” & “Jambalaya.”  In addition to the great times there was delicious food:  Irish soda bread, tender corned beef, shepherd’s pie and all the fixings for a truly memorable Irish meal.

Another highlight of the event was the performance by the Pipe & Drum bands that performed at the parade.  One of the youngest pipers, St. Anselm’s own Peter Whalen, Jr. led the Band of Rogues in a wonderful version of “Amazing Grace”.

Events like this could never occur without wonderful volunteers who plan, set-up, serve, and cleanup after events.  SACA is truly blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers who served on the St. Patrick’s Day Committee:  Fran Auletti, Jamie Beatrice, Kim Coleman, Katie Dean, Christine Deem, Kristen Gallagher, Mary Hart, Margaret Johnston, Marie Lennon, Regina McPadden, Simone Mouakkassah, Michele Soto, Barbara Thomas, Majella Volk, Madeline Whalen, & Eileen White.

We were the grateful recipients of your hard work and eye for detail and we thank you for a lovely time.  A special thanks is due to Caroline & Miranda, 2 junior volunteers who cheerfully ensured that tables had full water carafes and guests had the desert of their choice.

We hope you’ll put your Irish on next year and join the fun!

All the best,

The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
