On Holy Thursday, March 24, 2016, dozens came to Meletia Hall in St. Anselm Catholic Academy to help save lives by donating blood. The event, which was sponsored by the St. Anselm Holy Name Society, was for the benefit of the New York Blood Center.
Members of the Society were there to greet contributors at the door, distribute forms, and to thank them for their time and effort. Personnel from the New York Blood Center took blood pressure, medical histories, and checked for iron levels before the donors were approved for participation. With its ample space, Meletia Hall is an ideal location for blood donation, because it offers a comfortable, relaxing space for donors while also providing Blood Center personnel ample room to store the pints and/or separate the blood into “multiple products” (red blood cells, plasma, & platelets). One pint of blood can help one patient and “products” can help several patients.
To learn more about donating blood and to find an upcoming blood drive near you, reach out to the New York Blood Center and give the gift of life.
