April 26, 2017 – The St. Anselm Workforce Ministry Presents “Pathways to Job Opportunities” Workshop

The St. Anselm Workforce Ministry hosted its 11th workshop on April 26th for those looking to enter or re-enter the job market. Twenty-seven participants learned the fundamentals of resume development and the interview process at the workshop “Pathways to Job Opportunities: Finding the Job that Works for You” which was held in Meletia Hall.  Athena Hernandez, Director of the Good Help Services Program sponsored by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce was the speaker.  In addition to helpful tips regarding resume development (omit the old standard “References Available Upon Request”, it’s no longer used) and interview advice (go online and research the company prior to the interview to learn about the company to determine whether it would be a good “fit” for you), Athena also provided an overview of job openings available through Good Help Services.

Following her presentation, Athena met individually with participants to critique their resumes and file resumes for job interviews.  We thank Athena for sharing her knowledge, expertise and time with our participants.  This is our second event with the Good Help Services Program and we look forward to future workshops with Athena. Please visit www.ibrooklyn.com/employment to view a list of Good Help job openings.

Coming up in the fall, the Workforce Ministry will be holding a clothing drive for professional attire before and after all Masses during the weekend of October 28th & 29th to benefit our other partner organization, “Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow”, which provides career training for disadvantaged young adults.   This is a wonderful way to clean out your closets while helping someone in need.

All the best,

The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
