An Advent Afternoon of Prayer & Song
to Prepare for Christmas 2017
Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord (Psalm 89)
On Sunday, December 17th parishioners and guests gathered in the church for “An Advent Afternoon of Prayer & Song to Prepare for Christmas.” The glorious voices of the adult choir filled the church as basses, tenors, altos and sopranos blended in perfect harmony to perform carols including “Angels We Have Heard on High”, “A Christmas Gloria” and “O Holy Night.”
Parishioners were also encouraged to join the choir in singing carols such as “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen”, “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “O Come, All Ye Faithful”, “The First Noel” and the amazing “Silent Night.”
In addition, poignant readings about the birth and impact of Jesus’ life and teaching were interspersed throughout the program to underscore the real meaning of Christmas.
We thank our talented Adult Choir – Betty, Fred, George, Gina, Jason, Lauren, Marie, Mario, Mary Alice, Mona, Pat, Teri, Theresa, Tia, and Tom, as well as choir members and speakers – David, Gary and Marie, and our organist – David, for sharing their gifts with us and for the time they spent practicing to provide this wonderful event for the parish. A special thanks to Soloist/Choir Director Therese Panicali for her direction, for Fr. Kull for officiating, and to Msgr. Maloney for his continued support.
As parishioners and guests left the church, they were wished a Merry Christmas and offered candy as a symbol of the joy of the approaching holy day. We hope you will join us next year for another memorable time!
All the best,
The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
