March 26, 2017 – Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day SACA Style!

St. Anselm Catholic Academy was the place to be on Sunday March 26th for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Party which began after the Bay Ridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade. A beautifully decorated Meletia Hall was a welcome respite from the cold, damp day.  Partygoers were treated to the sounds of the wonderful “Band of Rogues” who performed Irish and Rock classics such Galway Girl, The Wild Rover, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, Rock Me Mama, Peaceful Easy Feeling and Margaritaville.  The band ended the night with a song dedicated to their youngest fan at the party—a delightful tot named Molly!

While the guests caught up with each other and enjoyed delicious Irish Soda bread, corned beef, shepherd’s pie, veggies, and mac & cheese, the special guests — musicians from the Breezy Point, Department of Sanitation, NYS Corrections Department, & Richmond County Pipe and Drum bands entered the hall and gave a rousing performance on the bagpipes and drums. And to top off the musical night, St. Anselm’s own Peter Whalen, Jr. led the Band of Rogues in a lively version of Amazing Grace.

Family-friendly events like this could never occur without the volunteers who plan, set-up, serve, and cleanup afterward. SACA is truly blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers who served on the St. Patrick’s Day Party Committee:  Katie Dean, Christine Deem, Marie Lennon, Regina McPadden, Simone Mouakkassah, Michele Soto, Barbara Thomas, Majella Volk & Eileen White.  We were the grateful recipients of your hard work and eye for detail and we thank you for a lovely time.  We hope you’ll put your Irish on next year and join the fun!
