While the truck parked in front of St. Anselm’s said “U-HAUL”, the spirit of the occasion was definitely the annual St. Vincent de Paul Used Clothing Drive sponsored by the St. Anselm Holy Name Society.
The event, held during the morning Masses on Sunday, May 7th, brought out parishioners and our Bay Ridge neighbors to contribute clothing for this worthwhile cause. The scores of bags that were donated will benefit the Saint Vincent de Paul Society in stocking racks in their stores, and in providing income for St. Vincent’s charitable programs.
Thank you to the many donors whose generosity and thoughtfulness made the event a success. And to the St. Vincent de Paul driver – James – who greeted the donors with a smile, helped them with their bags, and gave them a warm “thank you”.
The next Clothing Drive at St. Anselm will be the Professional Clothing Drive sponsored by the Workforce Ministry on the weekend of October 28th and 29th. It will help young adults being assisted by Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow to look professional at their job interviews and to enter the “Professional” job market.
St. Vincent de Paul (24 April 1581 – 27 September 1660) dedicated himself to serving the poor. He was canonized in 1737. He was renowned for his compassion, humility and generosity and is known as the “Great Apostle of Charity”.
Prayer to St. Vincent de Paul
Noble Saint Vincent de Paul,
beloved servant of the poor,
may we follow your example and do good works
among those whom society has abandoned,
enslaved, or forgotten.
Inspire us to feed the hungry,
to love a child,
to provide comfort and medicine to the sick,
to clothe those whose garments are threadbare,
and to offer hope and our Lord’s words
to all who need respite.
Thank you St. Anselm for your support!
All the Best
