St. Anselm Catholic Academy Alumni Association
First Annual School Family Recognition Dinner Dance
On November 4th, many familiar faces gathered together in St. Anselm Church to attend the 5pm Mass. The group of more than 160 then moved to Meletia Hall to celebrate the “First Annual School Family Recognition Dinner Dance” which was presented by the St. Anselm School Alumni Association. The honorees included the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the Gerardi Family, the Willson/ Shea/ Muccigrosso Family, Judith Comer – retired teacher and Monsignor Robert Romano.
Monsignor Maloney began the evening by thanking all who attended the event and praying for the parents, children, and teachers of St. Anselm Catholic Academy (SACA) as we “celebrate what was and look forward to the future of Catholic Education in our Parish”. Then laughter and reminiscing took over as friends from near and far hugged, introduced family members, enjoyed the memorabilia assembled by John and Sandy Thomas and shared their St. Anselm memories.
The reminiscing continued as the honorees’ awards were presented. Monsignor Romano spoke fondly of his 11 years at St. Anselm and shared a well-guarded secret regarding Sr. Meletia’s ability to see everything that was occurring in the classroom even when she was writing on the chalkboard—she relied on the reflection of the pictures of the Pope and the President to give her a panoramic view of the classroom! Honoree Judy Comer shared her special night with her grandson Seamus, who celebrated his 12th birthday by blowing out his birthday candles surrounded by many new friends! Local elected officials dropped by as well — State Senator Marty Golden delivered proclamations recognizing the honorees and City Council Member Vinnie Gentile congratulated the group and shared the news that the St. Anselm Little League Field would soon be dedicated. It truly was a special night for the oldest (your secret’s safe with us) to the youngest (Owen Muccigrosso) and everyone in between.
We thank Alumni Director John Thomas and committee members Jeanine Condon, Eileen Owens Downey, and Andrew White, along with the many volunteers and our wonderful student volunteers for an enjoyable evening filled with great laughs and fond memories.
All the best,
The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
