April 7, 2018 – St. Anselm’s Youth Activities “Play Ball!!!”

Play Ball!!!

April 7, 2018

Saturday, April 7th, was cold and blustery, as St. Anselm’s Youth Activities inaugurated their new ball field at 76th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway in McKinley Park. Former New York City Council Member Vincent Gentile and New York State Senator Marty Golden were both on hand for the celebratory first pitch.

The field, which had been dedicated on November 16, 2017, following a complete renovation sponsored by Council Member Gentile and former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, had sat through the winter, unused, waiting for this day – waiting for a player to step up to the plate and with a pitch and a swing make the park into a ball field!

The first game, against Our Lady of Angels – Holy Angels Academy, was won by the St. Anselm team16-4. In the upcoming months the boys and girls of St. Anselm Little League and softball teams will play against more than forty teams from public and private schools that are members of the League. While the field is not exclusively for St. Anselm use, the Youth Activities teams have first dibs on the scheduling of games.

St. Anselm’s Youth Activities member, Eileen Johnson, spoke enthusiastically about the new field which boasts dugouts, grandstands, drinking fountains, misting stations, storage space and a running path- “It’s beautiful. It’s a nice, brand new field.”

We know that it will be a fun-filled and exciting season for the St. Anselm’s Youth Activities players, parents, and coaches as the say – Take me out to the ballgame!

All the best,

The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
