Catching Up with the Young at Heart
2017 – 2018
At their last meeting before summer break, The St. Anselm Young at Heart Club (YAH) reflected on another year of fun, fellowship and service. YAH meets weekly on Mondays from 10 am to 1 pm September through June in Meletia Hall (the St. Anselm Catholic Academy basement at 83rd Street & 4th Avenue).
President Pat DeStasio and her team planned fun-filled trips this year which included: Sands Casino (Bethlehem, PA), a Christmas Show at Hunterdon Playhouse, St. Patrick’s Day show and lunch at Staaten, and lunch and shopping at the Miller Ridge Inn. In addition to the trips there are wonderful “in-house” celebrations such as: Thanksgiving Lunch and pizza and Italian pastries. If this weren’t enough there were also parties at the Bay Ridge Manor in December and June! Plans for the 2018-2019 year include an Oktoberfest show and lunch at Staaten among other events. In addition to the fun, the YAH Club supports St. Anselm Parish and Academy with twice-yearly donations to each.
There is also an Arts and Crafts Club which meets Wednesdays at 10 am in Meletia Hall to create beautiful knit or crocheted items. There are experts on hand to help a beginner get started, lend a helping hand or advise on technique. Everyone is welcome!
We thank Pat DeStasio and Pat and Tom Guyette for updating us about all the wonderful Young at Heart activities (past and future). If you are interested in becoming a member of the Young at Heart or the Arts and Crafts Club, please contact the St. Anselm Rectory at 718-238-2900. You do not have to be a St. Anselm Parishioner to become a member.
All the best,
The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
