A New Year (and A New Principal) At SACA!
It was an exciting yet challenging start to the 2018-2019 school year as, in the midst of a heatwave, SACA prepared for the new year and welcomed a new Principal, Mr. Kevin Flanagan.
Mr. Flanagan previously worked as a STEM/Technology Instructional Coach in New Jersey. In this role, he assisted teachers in the adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards and the development of a more inquiry-based approach to science instruction. Mr. Flanagan, who has worked with students from Grades K-8 in Science, Social Studies, Math, and Gifted & Talented Education, looks forward to being a Bay Ridge resident and a member of St. Anselm Parish. On Tuesday, September 4th, more than 100 parents, children and staff gathered for a “meet and greet” in Meletia Hall to welcome Mr. Flanagan.
In order to be ready for the opening day of school – Wednesday, September 5th – the dedicated SACA teachers began working in their classrooms in the severe August and September heat, putting up welcoming posters and bulletin boards, and distributing school supplies.
The Academy started the school year with a shortened week of half days for the students, enabling them to ease back into the school routine and avoid the afternoon heat. After dismissal each day, teachers participated in meetings and professional development, and were given time to put the finishing touches on their classrooms. On Friday, the students and teachers attended the 11 am Mass.
Please keep our students, parents, teachers, administrators, and staff in your prayers as they all work toward another year of academic excellence.
All the best,
The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
