On Sunday, December 16th parishioners and guests gathered in the church for “An Advent Afternoon of Prayer & Song to Prepare for Christmas.” The glorious voices of the adult choir filled the church as basses, tenors, altos and sopranos blended in perfect harmony to perform carols including “Angels We Have Heard on High”, “A Christmas Gloria” and “O Holy Night.”
Parishioners were also encouraged to join the choir in singing carols such as “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen”, “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “O Come, All Ye Faithful”, “The First Nowell” and the poignant “Silent Night.”
In addition, readings about the birth and impact of Jesus’ life and teaching were interspersed throughout the program to underscore the real meaning of Christmas – the birth of a child who as an adult, would change the world.
We thank our talented Adult Choir – Betty, Fred, Marie P., Mario, Mary Alice, Mona, Pat, Teri, Theresa, and Vasna, as well as choir members and speakers – David, Gary and Valerie, and our organist – David, for sharing their gifts with us and for the time they spent practicing in order to give such a wonderful gift to those in attendance. A special thanks to Soloist/Choir Director Therese Panicali for her direction, for Msgr. Maloney for officiating, and for his continued support of all things “St. Anselm.”
As parishioners and guests left the church, they were wished a Merry Christmas and offered candy as a symbol of the joy of the approaching holy day. We hope you will join us next year for another wonderful experience!
All the best,
The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
