July 28, 2019 – St. Anselm Blood Drive

Saint Anselm Parish held it’s fourth summer Blood Drive on July 28th, and thanks to the support of parishioners and donors throughout Bay Ridge – and beyond – more than 40 blood products were collected. The St. Anselm Holy Name Society (which sponsors the parish blood drives), and parishioners greeted donors as they entered and thanked them as they left.

The three drives sponsored annually by the Society (spring, summer and fall) make St. Anselm the second highest parish for blood donations among the parishes in Brooklyn. This summer’s drive was the second time in which the Mets Organization offered a pair of free tickets to a Mets game at Citi Field to all individuals who came to donate, or a Dunkin Donuts gift card.

The registration process was easy for donors who presented a NY Blood Center card or a New York State driver’s license or a school ID. After medical histories were reviewed and blood pressure and iron levels were tested the donors were accepted. Again this year, four donors participated in the ALEX process, taking the additional time to provide for “multiple” products. The space offered by the Academy’s Meletia Hall provides an ideal location for this more extensive and time consuming – but very worthwhile – donation experience.

“Thank you” to the many donors, whose generous commitment to helping to save lives, made the July 28th Blood Drive successful, to the Mets organization and the New York Blood Center and their wonderful personnel, and to the Holy Name Society who hosted the activity. And, (a special “Thank You”) to Monsignor Maloney for his support of the St. Anselm Blood Drives.
