Saint Anselm Boy Scout Troop 13 held its annual Fund Raiser – Bake Sale while rededicating the troop to the ideal of service by manning the New York City Marathon water station at 4th Avenue and 82nd street on Marathon Sunday – November 3rd.
The Bake Sale, which was held simultaneously on both sides of 4th Ave. raised money for the Troop’s many worthwhile activities throughout the year. Cupcakes, brownies, pies and even scones tempted parishioners leaving St. Anselm Masses and passers-by to open their wallets and take home something tasty while supporting the wonderful Scouting programs offered at St. Anselm. There were even bags of granola and gluten-free treats.
Meanwhile, members of Scout Troop 13 also manned the water station for the Marathon, between 81st St. and 82nd St. on 4th. This is a particularly commendable service, as the members who volunteered had to make the commitment well in advance to be vetted. Moreover, they had to be on station hours before the Marathon began, to fill the countless cups of water that would be offered to the runners, on what was a rather chilly day.
All together, more than 60 members of the Troop, parents, and leaders banded together to make a wonderful day of service by Scout Troop 13 dedicated the ideals of scouting: a Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
