Saint Anselm Parish hosted its third blood drive of 2019, on Sunday, November 10th. The drive, sponsored the St. Anselm Holy Name Society, brought more than three dozen donors to Meletia Hall in the basement of St. Anselm Catholic Academy to share in the gift of life by making blood donations.
As the donors entered, members of the Society greeted them and thanked them for coming. Those who had previously participated in a New York Blood Center drive were able to swipe their donor card and immediately enter into the process of updating their information. Donors, who had forgotten their cards, or who were new to the Blood Center system were able to get started by presenting a New York State driver’s license, or a state non-drivers ID, or a college ID.
New York Blood Center staff then checked each individual’s blood pressure and iron levels while reviewing all the updated donor history.
St. Anselm’s Meletia Hall is a particularly good place for blood donations as it enables donors to participate in the ALEX process in which platelets are taken from the donors blood, a more time consuming, but very worthwhile procedure. Upon completion of the process, donors stopped off at the “canteen” table to stock-up on an assortment of high sugar, high carb treats – “doctor’s orders”.
“Thank You” to the many donors who participated in our November Blood Drive – their commitment to being a blood donor is truly – sharing the gift of life and to Msgr. Maloney for supporting this worthwhile activity.
