St. Anselm Catholic Academy began the celebration of National Catholic Schools Week on Sunday, January 26th with Mass at 10 am followed by the first Parish Sunday Social of 2020. Around McMahon Auditorium, poster-board displays highlighted the wonderful educational opportunities and tradition of excellence offered at SACA. Academy Principal, Kevin Flanagan, was present to speak with parents and to answer questions about the Academy, soon to be the site of Bay Ridge Catholic, opening in September 2020. The Social gave parents (and prospective parents) the opportunity to meet the current staff, register their children and then tour the facility. Tours and open house events continued during the week.
Throughout the week, a succession of events provided the interested public and parents with an opportunity to learn more about the Academy. There were “Muffins with Mom” and “Donuts with Dad” breakfast receptions, a presentation of cards and goody bags to the Young at Heart, Sports Day and a Crazy Sock/Dress Down Day. The Academy held an appreciation Luncheon to thank veterans and first responders for their service as well as a “Tea” for the Grandparents of children in grades Pre-K-3 thru First Grade. There was a tour of the church, given by Fr. Anthony, for grades 2, 7, and 8. The Academy even held a formal dress-up dance for all the students in Grades 2 – 8. The school week concluded, on Friday, with a Teacher Appreciation Breakfast and an evening “Pot Luck Wingo”. But, Catholic Schools Week did not end with Friday’s events. Students from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and their parents provided service on Saturday at the St. Michael’s Soup Kitchen. What a great way to end a wonderful week!
“Thank you” to Principal Kevin Flanagan, the SACA teachers & staff, parents, and the student volunteers for a job well done during the week and throughout the year! We would also like to thank our parish priests: Msgr. Maloney, Msgr. Phillips, and Fr. Anthony for their on-going commitment to Catholic Education. All the best,
