February 29, 2020 – SACA Fathers’ Club – Boxing is Back in Bay Ridge!

On Saturday evening, February 29th, 2020, the Saint Anselm Catholic Academy Fathers’ Club did themselves proud – hosting the “Boxing is Back in Bay Ridge!” event in the Academy’s McMahon Auditorium. Months of planning went into putting together an evening that was both wildly successful for sports fans, a great fundraiser for the Academy, and just plain FUN.

Thanks to the support of the numerous and generous sponsors: Home Abstract Corp, Salty Dog Bar and Grill, Bayside Fuel and Oil, The Durst Organization, Citi Group, Lincoln Brokerage, SFC Security, Chef’s Choice, and NYC Cops and Kids Boxing – the committee was able to put together a memorable evening.

The event kicked off at 6:15 with the singing of the National Anthem. And the crowd kept on coming, as more and more chairs were brought out of storage and up from Meletia Hall, until there wasn’t another folding chair left in the building, to accommodate the more that 500 fans who showed up for the evening’s program. Ten fights of three rounds each were the highlight and focus of the evening. While cheering on their favorites, fans were able to purchase an assortment of foods, soda and water at a table manned by members of St. Anselm’s Scout Troop 13. There was also a selection of beer available to the adult fans.

A wonderfully successful event like this not only takes a lot of planning, but also a lot of support. Our thanks to the sponsors, the numerous Academy parents and many SACA Board members who came out to show support, volunteer, and make the evening a success. A special “thanks” to a great committee: John Brennan, Peter Cahill, Steve Chase, Robert Fadel, John Thomas (Fathers’ Club Vice-President), and off course – Mark D’Addona (Fathers’ Club President) who chaired the event.

“Boxing is Back in Bay Ridge!” was the Fathers’ Club most successful fundraiser to date. We hope that this great evening – for both sport’s fans and the Academy will not have to wait four years (Yes – it was February 29th! – a leap year) to return to Bay Ridge.

All the best,

The Saint Anselm Publicity Committee
