May 1st and 15th were special Sundays at Saint Anselm. The parish and the parents of the First Communion class joined to celebrate the First Holy Communion of more than forty youngsters in second grade.
These two solemn and joyous Sunday celebrations took place thanks to the efforts of three wonderful catechists: Mrs. Priscilla Goetten, Mrs. Josephine Logrozzo, and Ms. Patricia Pender, who – under the direction of Brother Robert Duffy, O.S.F. – prepared the children over the past school year for this momentous occasion in their lives as Catholics. And, of course, a special thanks to the loving parents, the children’s first teachers and models of faith.
On this happy occasion, the youngsters and their families expressed their faith and joy by creating banners, which were hung at the ends of the pews reserved for the First Communion recipients and their families at the two 10 AM Masses.
Each of the First Holy Communion Masses concluded with a procession to the shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the garden outside the church on 82nd Street. The first communicants and their families joined together to place a crown on the head of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and sing hymns in her honor.
Congratulations to the Saint Anselm First Communion Class of 2022. We wish you many blessings on your journey of faith and pray that you continually grow in love of God and of His Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, whom you have received on this sacred and joyous occasion.
All the best,
The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
