May 19, 2023 – St. Anselm Youth Activities Golf Outing

St. Anselm Youth Activities held its 24th Annual Pastors’ Tournament on Friday, May 19th at the Dyker Beach Golf Course. It was a perfect day, blue sky, brisk breezes – we suspect that some of the participants would later regret not having a windbreaker to wear – but nevertheless it was a beautiful spring day.

Several dozen enthusiastic golfers gathered for a delicious lunch at which they had the opportunity to greet Fr. John, St. Anselm’s newly installed pastor. Fr. John, who was accompanied by Fr. Anthony, gave a grace at the luncheon. During the lunch, the players enjoyed great food and conversation, while purchasing tickets for a wonderful selection of raffle gifts, as well as the ever-popular 50/50 raffle.

The meal being finished off, the players settled into their golf carts, the rules were read as to how the winning team would be determined – the players participate as teams (foursomes), not as individuals. Before the “shot-gun start” Fr. John gave a blessing – thanking the participants for their support of Youth Activities, and asking God to keep everyone safe on the course. And then, the carts, with their players, were off.

But, the end of play did not mean the end of a wonderful event as the players and the ‘dinner only’ guests gathered for a delicious evening “Awards Dinner”, with a second opportunity to participate in the raffles. The day concluded with the talented winners – on the course, and the lucky winners – at the raffles being announced.

“Thank you” to all the donors of the raffles, to the event sponsors, to the players, and – “Thank you” to Tom McCarthy, Chair, Frank Barnao, Janet Bonamassa, Jim Condon, Anthony LoPiccolo, Michele Soto, Christine Taylor, and Anne Texeira for making the event possible.

And, a special “Thank You” to Saint Anselm Youth Activities for its great programs for the young people of the parish.

All the best,
The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
