July 21, 2024 – St. Anselm Blood Drive

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, Saint Anselm Parish hosted a Blood Drive in Meletia Hall on behalf of the New York Blood Center. The drive attracted dozens of donors who took the time and effort to share in the gift of life.

Parish volunteers greeted donors as they arrived and thanked them for coming.

The donors first registered their information on NY Blood Center laptops, and then met with a representative of the NYBC, who reviewed with them their medical history, took blood pressure, and checked for blood sugar and iron levels.

For those who qualified, and for this drive we were very fortunate in the high percentage of donors who did, the choice was to either make a “regular” donation or to participate in an ALEX donation. An ALEX donation takes additional time, but permits the separation of the blood into several products. A total of 44 units were collected at our July Blood Drive.

Afterwards, donors rested up and recharged at the canteen table on drinks and snacks before leaving, with a word of “thanks” for coming.

“Thank you” to the many donors, whose commitment to this worthwhile activity, made it possible for the parish to help the New York Blood Center share the gift of life with those in need, to Fr. John for his support of the St. Anselm Blood Drive and to a wonderful committee: Bob Kassenbrock, Chair, Barbara & Sanjin Fabris, and Eileen & Peter Loughlin.
