Troop 13, which was founded in 1948, is one of the oldest Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) troops in Brooklyn. The Troop meets weekly on Mondays during the academic year, in Bay Ridge Catholic at 365 – 83rd Street, with a goal of providing indoor and outdoor programs that offer effective character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness.
The final event of the scouting year is going camping at Camp Aquahonga, a camp in the Ten Mile River system in New York’s Sullivan County. The scouts engaged in the merit badge program and had the opportunity to earn merit badges in swimming, cooking, camping, athletics, welding, wood working, archery, amongst many other interests. Troop 13 also participated in a special Mass celebrated by Bishop Robert Brennan on Wednesday, July 16 and got to see the Bishop’s Master of Ceremonies – our former Pastor, Fr. John Hwang!
Events such as camping are made possible by fundraisers which are held throughout the year and include the Bay Ridge Breakfast for Scouting which recognizes and honors those who support the Scouting America program.
“Thank you” to Scoutmaster John McCluskey and Scout leaders Isaac Rathbone, Joseph Corda, Patrick Mahaney, Ken LaPorte, Jesus DeInnocentiis, Mike Rizak, Joseph Donlon, and Kevin McNeil for their commitment to Troop 13. And a special thanks as well to Council Representative, Harry D’Onofrio, for his unwavering support. Finally, congratulations to the scouts of Troop 13 and another successful year of scouting!
All the best,
The St. Anselm Publicity Committee
