On Sunday, February 15th, St. Anselm held its first Blood Drive of 2026. Dozens of donors came to the Academy’s McMahon Auditorium to give the “Gift of Life”. On hand were the medical personnel of the New York Blood Center who checked the donors’ medical histories and shepherded them through the donation process.
St. Anselm’s offers an ideal location for donations as it provides ample space for those wishing to make an ALEX donation, which permits the separating of the blood into multiple products.
Sixty-six lifesaving donations were collected, which will help more than 198 lives. Seven donors made either their first lifetime blood donation or their first donation with the New York Blood Center!
Upon completing the process, donors spent some time at the canteen table, stocking up on carbs and bringing their sugar and blood pressure levels back up before leaving.
“Thank you” to the Saint Anselm parishioners, who volunteered their time to greet the donors as they entered, helped them to navigate the process and thanked them for their thoughtfulness as they left – Barbara Fabris, Eileen and Peter Loughlin, and Bob Kassenbrock. Thank you to the New York Blood Center personnel and NYBC volunteer, Marcy, who was wonderful! Thank you Fr. Kevin for your support of the Blood Drive.
